But I've seen the 2% case. It doesn't show up in your average until it lands on a Tuesday, on a refinery pad, with twelve workers waiting and a penalty clause running. The average doesn't matter. The distribution matters.

I do not believe every OEM part is fairly priced. There are items—filters, shims, standard hardware—where the brand matters less. But be honest about the risk line. When I compare quotes now, I add a line for “potential emergency cost” to non-OEM parts.
